Carriage Bolts
Carriage bolts are a type of fastener designed for use in wood or metal where easy assembly and security are priorities. They are characterized by a round, domed head with no external drive, which makes them difficult to remove without access to the nut holding them in place. This feature also gives the bolt a smooth and aesthetically pleasing appearance on the head side.

Carriage Bolt Features:
Domed Head: The head is smooth and round, which not only provides a neat finish but also increases safety by eliminating sharp edges.
Square Neck: Right beneath the head, there is a square section (the shank), which fits into a square hole in the material or sinks into the wood as the nut is tightened. This design prevents the bolt from turning during installation, allowing the nut to be tightened from the opposite side.
Threaded Part: The rest of the bolt is threaded, which allows it to be secured with a nut.
Carriage Bolt Applications:
Wood Construction: Commonly used in wooden decks, docks, and outdoor furniture where a smooth bolt head is needed to prevent snagging and enhance appearance.
Metal to Wood: Useful for fastening metal components to wood, such as in gate construction or attaching metal plates to wooden beams.
Flat Surfaces: Ideal for use in applications where a flat or smooth surface is required for safety or aesthetic reasons.
Carriage Bolt Installation:
To install the carriage bolt, a hole is drilled into the material to be attached, which is slightly larger than the diameter of the bolt, but smaller than the square shank under the head. When the nut is tightened, the square shank is inserted into the wood (or a square hole suitable for metal) to prevent the bolt from turning.
