Basics of Blind Rivets
Blind rivets, also known as pop rivets, are a type of mechanical rivets that can be riveted from one side of the workpiece. As a professional fastener manufacturer, Xinchi is happy to introduce specific information on selecting suitable rivets for your reference.
A blind rivet consists of two parts: the rivet body (the shell or cap) and the mandrel (the nail or pin).
The rivet body of a blind rivet is typically manufactured through one of the following methods: cold heading from wire, stamping from sheet material, or processing from tubes. The first method, cold heading, is the most common.
Blind rivets are particularly suitable for applications with access from only one side of the workpiece. To use, place the rivet in a pre-drilled hole, and use a specialized riveting tool to pull the mandrel. This pulling action draws the mandrel’s head into the rivet body, causing the rivet body to deform and expand on the backside, securing the connection. When the mandrel’s head reaches the surface of the backside material, resistance is created, and the mandrel separates at a pre-determined breaking point based on the specified shear force. The remaining rivet body forms a secure connection, with the mandrel head staying fixed within it, while the excess mandrel portion breaks off and falls out.
