Standard Parts Disassembly Techniques

Standard parts refer to commonly used components whose structure, dimensions, drawings, markings, and other aspects have been fully standardized and are manufactured by specialized factories. These include threaded parts, keys, pins, rolling bearings, etc. In a broader sense, they encompass standardized fasteners, connectors, transmission components, sealing elements, hydraulic components, pneumatic components, bearings, springs, and other mechanical parts.

Disassembling standard parts can be a challenging task. So, what are the best techniques for disassembling them? As a professional fastener manufacturer, XINCHI is happy to share some effective standard parts disassembly techniques.

Disassembling Rusted Bolts and Nuts

First, soak the rusted bolts and nuts in kerosene for 20-30 minutes. Then, use a hammer to tap around the nut to loosen the rust layer before attempting to unscrew it. If it still cannot be removed, heat the nut with a blowtorch. The nut will expand more than the bolt due to the heat, making it easier to unscrew.

If the thread is stripped, drill a larger hole in the threaded section and re-tap the threads. Use a stepped bolt with an enlarged end while maintaining the original diameter on the other end. Additionally, process a new nut with both internal and external threads—its outer diameter should match the enlarged hole, and the internal thread should match the original diameter. Apply 502 adhesive on the external threads before screwing it into the enlarged hole.

Disassembling Broken Rivets

If the broken screw has a large diameter and is relatively loose, use a hammer and a chisel to remove it in the opposite direction of the thread gradually. If the broken screw protrudes from the surface, file it into a square shape and unscrew it, or weld a nut onto the broken end and then unscrew it.

If the broken screw is flush with or below the surface, drill a hole in the center of the broken screw, insert a multi-edged quenched steel chisel, and twist it out. A reverse-threaded screw can also be used to extract the broken piece. If enlarging the hole is acceptable, drill out the broken screw and re-thread the hole to a larger size.

Disassembling Spring Assemblies

To prevent deformation due to uneven stress, screws in a spring assembly should be loosened in a diagonal and symmetrical pattern. Begin by slightly loosening all screws (1-2 turns), then gradually remove them one by one.

For square or circular parts, loosen the screws in a diagonal or radial symmetrical manner. For long strip-shaped parts, start loosening from both ends toward the center or from the center outward in a symmetrical or diagonal sequence. Hard-to-reach screws should be loosened first before removal.

When disassembling cantilevered components with multiple screws, start by loosening the screws from the bottom in a symmetrical order. At least one or two screws at the top should remain in place until the end to prevent accidents or damage to the parts.
