What is the fastener thread type?

The contour shape of the thread can be seen on the section through the thread axis, which is called the tooth shape of the thread. It has triangles, trapezoids, serrations, and rectangles. Different thread types of fasteners have different routes.

Fastener thread type symbol:

M — ordinary thread;

R, Rc, Rp — pipe thread sealed with thread;

NPT — 60-degree taper pipe thread;

G — Pipe thread without thread seal. The thread itself does not have tightness, if the connection is required to have tightness, you can press the sealing surface outside the connection thread pair, or add sealing material between the sealing surface, for pipes, pipe joints, cock, valves, etc.;

Tr — trapezoidal thread. It can be used to transfer motion and power, such as machine tool lead screw, tail hanger lead screw, etc.

B — serrated thread. It can be used to transmit one-way pressure, such as a jack screw.

Note that the inner and outer threads are used in pairs, but only when the above elements are exactly the same can they be spun together.

Three elements are in line with the national standard called a standard thread. Those threads whose shape meets the standard, but whose nominal diameter or pitch does not meet the standard, are called special threads. Those thread type does not meet the standard, such as square thread, called a non-standard thread.
